Synthesis of copper(II) and gold(III) bis(NHC)-pincer complexes

2016

Abstract CuII and AuIII chlorido complexes bearing the bis(NHC) carbazolide pincer ligand (bimca) were synthesized by transmetallation from the respective lithium complex [Li(bimca)] (NHC=N-heterocyclic carbene). In the case of copper, two different molecular structures were obtained depending on the copper source. With Cu(II) chloride the paramagnetic mononuclear [Cu(bimca)Cl] complex is formed and has been characterized by EPR spectroscopy and X-ray structure analysis, while copper(I) chloride leads under oxidation to a dinuclear structure in which two cationic [CuII(bimca)] moieties are bridged by one chlorido ligand. The positive charge is compensated by the [CuCl2]− counter ion, as pro…

The tandem Diels-Alder reaction between acetylenedicarboxyaldehyde and N,N'-dipyrrolylmethane. An ab initio study of the molecular mechanisms

1998

Abstract An extensive exploration at RHF/3-21G and RHF/6-31G ∗ levels of the potential energy surface for the tandem cycloaddition of acetylenedicarboxyaldehyde to N,N'-dipyrrolylmethane allows us to characterize the reaction pathways and the associated stationary points. The formation of the pincer and/or domino adducts can be described as a stepwise mechanism. The first step, associated with an intermolecular [4 + 2] cycloaddition, is the rate determining step and an azanorbornadiene intermediate is obtained. The second step is an intramolecular [4 + 2] cycloaddition. The formation of the pincer adduct is the step which kinetically controls the global process, due to the low barrier heigh…

Ammonia Activation by a Nickel NCN-Pincer Complex featuring a Non-Innocent N-Heterocyclic Carbene: Ammine and Amido Complexes in Equilibrium

2015

A Ni0-NCN pincer complex featuring a six-membered N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) central platform and amidine pendant arms was synthesized by deprotonation of its NiII precursor. It retained chloride in the square-planar coordination sphere of nickel and was expected to be highly susceptible to oxidative addition reactions. The Ni0 complex rapidly activated ammonia at room temperature, in a ligand-assisted process where the carbene carbon atom played the unprecedented role of proton acceptor. For the first time, the coordinated (ammine) and activated (amido) species were observed together in solution, in a solvent-dependent equilibrium. A structural analysis of the Ni complexes provided insig…

Synthesis, structure and in vitro anticancer activity of Pd(II) complexes of mono- and bis-pyrazolyl-s-triazine ligands

2020

Abstract The square planar complexes [Pd(MPT)Cl2] (1) and [Pd(BPT)Cl]ClO4 (2) were synthesized by the reaction of the 4,4′-(6-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diyl)dimorpholine (MPT) and N-methyl-N-phenyl-4,6-di(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-1,3,5-triazin-2-amine (BPT) ligands with PdCl2 (1:1) in acetone under thermal conditions, respectively. In complex 1, the Pd(II) ion is coordinated with the MPT ligand as a bidentate NN-chelate, augmented with two chloride ligands in cis positions. In complex 2, the Pd(II) ion is coordinated with the BPT ligand as a tridentate N-chelate in a pincer fashion, together with one chloride ligand. Hirshfeld analysis indicated that complex 1 is packed with…

Synthesis and reactivity of an 2-azabutadiene-based π-conjugated dithioether: Formation of a N,S-ligated molybdenum chelate complex and C,N,S-pincer …

2005

Abstract Nucleophilic attack of sodium isopropylthiolate on 4,4-dichloro-1,1-diphenyl-2-azabuta-1,3-diene [Cl2C C(H)–N CPh2}] (1) affords the 2-azabutadiene derivative [(i-PrS)2C C(H)–N CPh2] (2). Upon irradiation of Mo(CO)6 in THF in the presence of 2, the chelate complex cis-[(OC)4Mo{(i-PrS)2C C(H)–N CPh2}] (3) is obtained. Coordination on Mo occurs through the imine nitrogen and a thioether group. Polydentate dithioether 2 acts as N,C,S-pincer ligand after orthometallation reaction with Pd(II) or Pt(II). The molecular structures of 2 and (C,N,S)-[(i-PrS)2C C(H)–N C(Ph)C6H4)PtCl] (4b) have been determined by X-ray diffraction studies.

Synthesis ofmeta-Terphenyl-2,2′′-diols by Anodic C−C Cross-Coupling Reactions

2016

The anodic C-C cross-coupling reaction is a versatile synthetic approach to symmetric and non-symmetric biphenols and arylated phenols. We herein present a metal-free electrosynthetic method that provides access to symmetric and non-symmetric meta-terphenyl-2,2''-diols in good yields and high selectivity. Symmetric derivatives can be obtained by direct electrolysis in an undivided cell. The synthesis of non-symmetric meta-terphenyl-2,2''-diols required two electrochemical steps. The reactions are easy to conduct and scalable. The method also features a broad substrate scope, and a large variety of functional groups are tolerated. The target molecules may serve as [OCO](3-) pincer ligands.

Synthesis and Supramolecular Association of Immobilized NCN-Pincer Platinum(II) Complexes on Hyperbranched Polyglycerol Supports

2004

Pertosylation of hyperbranched polyglycerol (M(n)=2000; M(w)/M(n)=1.3) followed by partial displacement of the tosyl groups with carboxylic acid functionalized NCN-pincer platinum(II) complexes [PtI-2,6-(NMe(2)CH(2))(2)C(6)H(2)-4-COOH], resulted in covalent attachment of the NCN-pincer complexes to the polyglycerol. These functionalized hyperbranched macromolecules have been characterized by (1)H, (13)C, and (195)Pt NMR, UV-visible, and IR spectroscopy. The presence of Pt and I atoms renders them directly visible by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) without staining procedures, which offers images of associated hyperbranched macromolecules. TEM micrographs show disk-shaped structures w…

Synthesis, reactivity, crystal structures and catalytic activity of new chelating bisimidazolium-carbene complexes of Rh

2003

A series of new bridging, chelating and pincer N-heterocyclic carbenes of RhI and RhIII have been obtained under mild conditions. The compounds have been fully characterised and their crystal structures determined. The chelate-pincer coordination of the ligands means that the stability of these compounds is significantly greater than other carbene complexes of Rh. The compounds have been tested in catalytic reactions such as hydrogen transfer from alcohols to ketones, and hydrosilylation of terminal olefins and alkynes; they show a high activity for both processes.
